KDF takes over KEMSA

The troubled Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) will now be under the management of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Youth Service (NYS) among organizations listed by the government on a caretaker basis to save it.

This is after the government through the agency’s chairperson Mary Chao Mwadime directed all non-core staff to proceed on a 30-day leave as restructuring of the body takes place with operations at the institution run by a lean team drawn from some core employees and other government entities.

However, the news was not received well by a number of Kenyans led by a section of Deputy President William Ruto’s camp who warned of excessive militarization of key government institutions.

Reacting to the announcement, nominated senator Millicent Omanga issued a stern warning that the trend of militarizing institutions portends danger for Kenya’s nascent democracy.

“Militarizing every institution in this country portends danger for our nascent democracy. Now KEMSA has been taken over by KDF,” an agitated Omanga tweeted.
