Secondary school teacher commits suicide over bank loan in Kisumu

Kennedy Ochieng’, a 41-year-old teacher at Nyong’ong’a Secondary School in Nyakach, Kisumu County, takes his life by suicide over bank loan at his village home in Homa Bay.


The deceased took his own life using a rope at Kalal village in Rachuonyo North sub-County.

His brother Michael Ouma discovered his lifeless body dangling from a mango tree.

“I went for a matchete to cut the rope to rescue him. But he had already succumbed,” said Ouma.



Ouma stated that the deceased had never told anyone his problems, but he believe he took his life due to the bank loan.

“I called in the afternoon. He spoke well with me,” said Ouma.

The deceased’s sister-in-law Caroline Anyango noted that she saw him with a rope in his pocket. “When I questioned him about the rope, he told me he is going to tie something with it,” Anyango said.

Assistant local administrator of Kobuya East Pancras Lumumba stated that he had spoke with police attached to Kendu Bay Police Station, who have have launched probes into the deceased’s demise.


The body was transferred to Kendu Adventist Mission Hospital Morgue.
