Drama in Bungoma as robbers mistakenly shoot their own accomplices during robbery

Drama was witnessed in Bungoma town on Sunday night when robbers mistakenly shot dead their own colleague during a night of robbery.

During the incident that took place in Mandizini estate in Bungoma town, Kanduyi constituency, the robbers on the robbing spree mistakenly gunned down their own when they were about to shoot an Mpesa agent.

A report from Bungoma police station indicated that while the officers were processing the scene of the first robbery incident they heard some gunshots emanating from Mandizini Area and again rushed and established that three unknown male adults had robbed an Mpesa shop belonging to one Kikuyu female adult namely Veronica Mumbi. She alleged to have been robbed cash Sh 20,000 and one mobile phone make techno. 

“In the process one robber was gunned down by his accomplice as they were trying to escape, the police who were on hot pursuit found a dead body of the thug sprawled on the ground with a gunshot wound,” read the report.

The Mpesa lady alleged that the thugs initially claimed to be police officers looking for smuggled contraband cigarettes and when she realized they were thugs, she broke away from them and that’s when the armed thug shot at her missing her by a whisker and the bullet hit the accomplice killing him instantly. 

In the first incident, it was also reported by one Faraj Osundwa who is a member of Bungoma Township Community Policing that on 2/1/2022 at around 2130hrs he heard gunshots at a place called Kwa Dismus within Bungoma Township. 

Police Officers from Bungoma Police Station and Bungoma South Division crime personnel rushed to the scene and established that some unknown three men riding on a motorcycle raided Hababi Petrol Station located within Kwa Dismas and accosted the petrol station attendant namely Stephen Omukaga with kicks and blows and robbed him cash amounting to Sh6,000 and two mobile phones make Itel and Neon Pro and in the process discharged seven rounds of ammunition as they were escaping but nobody was injured. 

“The petrol attendant who sustained slight injuries on the nose from the kicks and blows was taken to Bungoma County Referral Hospital where he was treated and discharged in stable condition,” it read.

The following recoveries were made at that scene:

1. Seven spent cartridges of 7.62×39mm at Hababi Petrol Station.

2. One spent cartridge of 7.62×39mm outside the Mpesa shop,

3 One handcuff key,

4. Ksh1,290,

5. One mobile phone make X-tigi at Mandizini Area. 

The scene was processed and body moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy and identification.
