Sad day in Meru as seven people brutally murdered are laid to rest

Emotions were very high at the burial of seven people who were murdered in cold blood by herders at a place known as Mweronkoro village, Tigia east in Meru county.

According to reports, the incident occurred after several herders crossed Meru county while herding their camels from Isiolo which led to clashes with residents.

Some of the people who were murdered while defending themselves and their land are Samson Maathi, Kariji Mukotha Kelvin Kimathi, Lawrence Mweti, Peter Njilithia, Joshua Murithi and Kariji Mukitha.

Several leaders from Isiolo county and other counties joined the families of the seven in giving their loved ones the last respect. Among the top Kenyan leaders were governor Kiraitu Murungi who hosted ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Residents from the neighboring counties have been asked to maintain peace and unity among themselves to avoid such incidents that lead to death. We will like to send our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. May their soul rest in peace.
